A Lawrenceburg man was killed on U.S. 60 in Shelby County Thursday morning when his pickup was hit by an out-of-control dump truck, state police said.

The 57-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Shelby County Coroner's office.

The crash occurred about 10:59 a.m. at the Waddy community, according to state police in Franfort.

Police said a 2013 Freightliner dump truck was traveling east on U.S. 60 when some tread came off one of the tires. That caused the driver, identified as Jonathan Denning, 28, of New Albany, Ind., to lose control, troopers said.

According to police, the dump truck traveled into the westbound lane, colliding with the 1959 Ford pickup head-on.

Both vehicles left the roadway, with the dump truck overturning and landing on top of the pickup.

Denning was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital.

An investigation is continuing.
