A man was shot in the head late Sunday just east of downtown Lexington and crashed his car into a house, but he is expected to survive, police said. No arrests were made Sunday night.

Lexington police responded at 8:50 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the area of Hawkins Avenue. They found a man with a head wound on a front porch a block away on the 500 block of Pemberton Street, Lt. Edward Hart said. Evidence suggested shots were fired in the middle of Hawkins Avenue, and the victim's car then went through a front yard and picket fence and struck the house. No one in the house was hurt, Hart said.

The victim, whose name was not released Sunday, was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital for treatment. The bullet apparently did not enter his skull, Hart said. Detectives were interviewing the victim.
