Woodford County: Jouett House Herb Garden dedication at 2 p.m. Saturday

September 17, 2013

The Jack Jouett House Historic Site will celebrate the completion of its new colonial herb garden with a special program, "Savoring the Past: Dedication of the Jouett House Herb Garden," at 2 p.m. Saturday in the visitor center. Admission is free.

The period-correct garden was planned and installed and is maintained by the Woodford Herbalist Club. The first phase of the garden was completed in 2011. The second and third phases were completed this summer, thanks in part to grant funding by the Woodford County Conservation District.

The garden will be dedicated to Jack Jouett's wife, Sally Robards Jouett, in memory of her role as the mistress of the frontier household, whose duties would have included oversight of the farm's kitchen gardens.

Woodford Herbalist Club members will be available to answer questions about creating and tending an herb garden. Free tours of the historic buildings will also be available. The Jack Jouett House Historic Site is located six miles southwest of Versailles at 255 Craig's Creek Road, just off McCowan's Ferry Road. For more information, call the Jack Jouett House at (859) 873-7902 or visit Jouetthouse.org.
