Fatal crash closes Interstate 75

September 21, 2013

Two lanes of northbound Interstate 75 in Fayette County were shut down for most of the day Saturday after a fatal tractor-trailer crash was discovered off the interstate.

Lexington police Lt. Chris Young said the tractor-trailer crashed off I-75 near the 110 mile marker sometime late Friday night or early Saturday.

The truck was so far off the road, it wasn't visible, he said.

The crash was found at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, when a motorist saw evidence of the wreck.

Young said the tractor-trailer had left the road, crossed a creek and hit an embankment, killing the driver, who has not been publicly identified.

Diesel fuel and the truck's cargo of plastic pellets had spilled, and the interstate had to be shut down for cleanup, Young said.
