Two Laurel County women were arrested after taking money and drugs from a dead man Saturday, according to Sheriff John Root.

Amy S. Vanover, 41, told deputies she stuffed several items into her pants, including drugs and cash, because the man didn't need it anymore. Carole J. Jones, 53, told deputies she had taken what police described as "a considerable amount" of cash because the dead man would have wanted her to have it. Several empty containers of morphine also were found in the home.

Both women, who are from Lily, were charged with multiple counts, including trafficking in a controlled substance, drug possession and tampering with physical evidence. The identity of the dead man was not released.

The women were being held in the Laurel County jail.
