Bates Security named Lexington's small business of the year

September 23, 2013

Bates Security has been named the 2013 Small Business of the Year by Commerce Lexington.

Bates Security, which also received the chamber of commerce's Business Success Award, was chosen from among seven category winners. The company was recognized at the Salute to Small Business Awards Luncheon on Friday at Keeneland.

Bates will now be submitted by the Bluegrass Small Business Development Center for state and national recognition through the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Sonny and Pat Bates bought Sonitrol of Lexington in 1984 and simultaneously began ADR Security Services, which was rebranded Bates Security in 2011. Now, daily operations are driven by the Bates' sons, Jeremy and Bryan.

Bates Security is the largest privately owned security company based in Kentucky.
