Elliott County student charged after bringing WWII grenade to school

An Elliott County Middle School student was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property Monday, after bringing a World War II training grenade to school.

Staff at the school found the grenade on the student and contacted the board of education, which notified state police at 10:43 a.m., according to a news release.

No one was injured, and students and staff were not evacuated.

The student's identity was not released.
