Madison County: Mammogram and a Movie event Thursday; ASAP heroin conference Oct. 24

Baptist Health Lexington and Baptist Health Richmond will present Mammogram and a Movie on Thursday at Cinemark at Richmond Centre, 2103 Lantern Ridge Drive.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for this free Spirit of Women event. Participants will learn about the latest advances in breast imaging and the importance of early detection, and they will get a chance to ask questions of participating doctors.

Conference to examine heroin abuse, prevention

The Madison County Agency for Substance Abuse Policy board will host the Heroin in Kentucky Headlines Conference 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 24 at the First United Methodist Church Ministry Center on West Main Street in Richmond.

The conference will provide information and resources that will help promote the prevention and awareness of heroin abuse.

Guest speakers include: Dr. Cristin Rolf, deputy Kentucky medical examiner; Jimmy Cornelison, Madison County coroner; Kerry Harvey, United States attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; and Special Agent Jared Sullivan, United States Drug Enforcement Agency.

Documentation will be available for self-reporting continuing education hours.

Family Day is Saturdayat Maywoods nature area

Family Nature Day is at the Maywoods Environmental and Educational Laboratory from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Free outdoor activities for children and adults, hosted by EKU's Division of Natural Areas and led by EKU faculty, staff and students, will include a creek crawl to explore the stream ecosystem and learn about its diverse inhabitants, a woodland creature hunt, recreational tree climbing, and a fly fishing workshop, among other activities. Lunch concessions will be provided by EKU's International Service Learning Class. Morning and afternoon sessions require pre-registration.
