A Winchester woman shot and wounded her husband before killing herself Thursday night, Clark County Coroner Robert Gayheart said Friday.

Patricia L. Volkar, 64, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Gayheart said.

Area television stations reported the name of the husband as Theodore or Ted Volkar. Gayheart would not release the husband's name but said the man was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. The victim was listed in serious condition Friday afternoon, a hospital spokesman said.

The shooting happened between 8 and 8:30 p.m., on Kittison Drive off Lexington Avenue, Gayheart said.

"It was a domestic, and the gentleman called for help after he was shot," Gayheart said. "It was a murder attempt and suicide."
