Distance from Lexington: Just north of Lexington, Georgetown is 15 miles from metro Lexington.

Known for: The Rev. Elijah Craig is credited with distilling the first Bourbon whiskey at Royal Springs Park.

Brief history: Named for General Charles Scott, a Revolutionary War hero who later became the Commonwealth's fourth governor, Scott County was settled in 1792. Georgetown was named in 1790 in honor of the first U.S. President George Washington.

Don't miss: Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. came to Georgetown in 1988, was Toyota's first wholly owned manufacturing facility in the United States.
