Wise Dan all set for Keeneland start

The Sports NetworkSeptember 28, 2013

Horse of the Year Wise Dan took a gallop Saturday at Keeneland in preparation for his defense of the Shadwell Turf Mile in one week.

Trained by Charles LoPresti for owner Morton Fink, Wise Dan galloped 1 1/8 miles with his regular exercise rider Damien Rock. Last year, the 6-year-old gelding used the Shadwell as his final prep before winning the Breeders' Cup Mile.

Most recently, Wise Dan won his second straight Woodbine Mile in a course record time of 1:31.75.

"He acts like he didn't even run," LoPresti said. "He did it really well and came back here the morning after the race.

"His stride is just so efficient. I think he is better than he was here in the spring."

The champion is following a similar trek to the Breeders' Cup as last year.

This year he won his second consecutive Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga. Wise Dan won the Firecracker Handicap at Churchill Downs on June 29. He began 2013 with wins in the Maker's 46 Mile and Woodford Reserve Turf Classic and is working on a nine-race win streak.

Undefeated in five starts this year, the 6-year-old gelding has won 18 of 25 career starts for $5,043,610.
