Lex-Care: Former teacher needs help with medical bill

October 1, 2013

The only case received this week at Lex-Care came from Janice Purdy, a social worker at Hospice Palliative Care program. Her client is a 28-year-old teacher who needs $300 to pay a medical bill.

She has been dealing with pancreatitis for several years and is unable to work. She has not received disability benefits because of long periods when she had no symptoms.

She lost her insurance, and her doctor requires payment before she can make another appointment for treatment.

She will try to renew her teaching contract as her health allows or will apply for Social Security disability benefits. At present she has no income and her family is meeting her basic needs but cannot pay for her medical care.

You can help: Lex-Care Inc., P.O. Box 1328, Lexington, Ky. 40588. Contact Lex-Care at (859) 699-9859 or Lexcare.org.
