Virginia Groppo, a Jessamine County home school senior, has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award with a project that supported Tema General Hospital in Ghana. Recognizing a need to better inform African women about pregnancy and infant care, Groppo supervised the filming of a parenting video that was distributed at the hospital. Groppo was involved in every aspect of the video including editing, burning, shipping and distribution. The Gold Award represents leadership and service and is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. Groppo plans to attend the University of Kentucky and major in merchandising apparel and textiles.
