Tates Creek High School student accused of assaulting bus monitor

A Tates Creek High School student was charged with assault Tuesday after allegedly attacking a school-bus monitor in the bus lane outside Tates Creek Middle School.

The monitor was treated at St. Joseph East and later released.

Fayette County Public Schools spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said the incident occurred about 3:55 p.m., as middle school students were being dismissed to board their buses, which were lined up outside. Monitors normally assist the children in loading, she said.

The monitor was standing in front of her bus when she was injured, according to Deffendall.

The school system's law enforcement department investigated, and the student was charged with third-degree assault.
