Richard Moloney, the city's commissioner for environment and public works, will retire on Oct. 30.
Moloney who is a former chief administrative officer and also served as the 11th District Urban County Councilman, announced Thursday he will retire, said Susan Straub, a spokeswoman for the city.
Moloney has been a member of the administration since Mayor Jim Gray took office in January 2011. Prior to that, he was appointed by Gov. Steve Beshear to be director of the Office of Housing, Building and Construction. Moloney served seven terms on the Urban County Council before being appointed by Beshear to the state's top housing position in 2008.
