Whitley County fire kills woman; husband escapes

October 11, 2013

A house fire in Whitley County killed a woman and injured two firefighters, according to WKYT-TV.

Williamsburg firefighters responded to the fire on Old Corbin Pike. By the time firefighters were able to find a woman inside, she was dead, according to the news report.

The victims name has been identified as Pam Chinn. Her husband, Ronnie Chinn made it out of the house. He was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire was an electric heater, said James Privett, Williamsburg fire chief. "Everything is pretty much destroyed." About two-thirds of the house remains.

A firefighter was injured when the roof collapsed, but he did not need medical treatment, the station reported. Another firefighter with a minor injury was taken to the hospital.
