Corbin driver dies, passenger injured in Whitley County wreck

October 14, 2013

One man died and another was injured in a single-vehicle wreck in Whitley County early Sunday.

Bernie R. Kilgore, 48, of Corbin, was driving a 1994 Toyota Corolla west on Bee Creek Road when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line, hit a utility pole and then hit a tree head-on, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police.

Kilgore was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger, Charles D. Clark, 21, of Corbin, was taken by helicopter to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition late Monday afternoon.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt.

State police said they suspected alcohol was a factor in the crash.
