Old Eastern State Hospital buildings coming downSeveral buildings, including the Allen Building which was occupied in the late 1950's, are being torn down on the site of the old Eastern State Hospital. A deal was made where Eastern State Hospital built a new facility on UK's Coldstream Research Campus and the Bluegrass Community and Technical College System has built, and is building, on the land once used by Eastern State Hospital. ORourke Wrecking Co. tore down the old Allen Building on the former Eastern State Hospital campus on Newtown Pike Monday. As part of a three-way land trade, Bluegrass Community and Technical College is building a new campus where the hospital used to be, Eastern State has a new building on the University of Kentuckys Coldstream Research Campus, and UK will take over, the BCTC buildings adjacent to Commonwealth Stadium. There still are several old Eastern State buildings to be torn down.
