Scott County: Children's Christmas charity drive

October 15, 2013

Former victim of Central Asian persecution Yuliya Shubina, spoke on behalf of Operation Christmas Child Oct. 5 at First Baptist Church Georgetown. She talked about how the project changed her life and is changing the lives of millions of children around the world each year.

As a child, Shubina received one of the more than 100 million gift-filled shoeboxes that the project has donated to children in more than 130 countries since 1993, including items such as toys, school supplies and hygiene items. These shoeboxes will again be collected this year at local drop-off sites during what is known as National Collection Week Nov. 18-25.

To find out more about how you can get involved and pack a shoebox or volunteer year-round, visit Samaritanspurse.org.
