Hike: Your weekly guide to high school football

October 17, 2013

friday's kickoffs

City games

No. 24 Bryan Station (3-3) at No. 3 Scott County (7-0), 7:30 p.m.: Scott County has scored at least 50 points in six of its seven victories and put up 42 in the other game. Bryan Station, led by quarterback Ora "Bo" Johnson, will try to keep up with its speed-laced offense. Johnson passed for 292 yards last week.

Henry Clay (6-1) at Paul Laurence Dunbar (5-2), 7:30 p.m.: First-year coach Paul Rains is trying to lead Dunbar to its first winning season since 2005 and can guarantee a winning regular season by beating the Devils. Henry Clay is hoping to bounce back after suffering its first loss, 70-34 to Scott County, last week.

Lafayette (2-6) at Madison Central (1-7), 7:30 p.m.: Defense has been the downfall for both the Generals (36 points allowed per game) and the Indians (44) this season.

Somerset (3-4) at Lexington Christian (1-6), 7:30 p.m.: Freshman Jordan Doan rushed for 167 yards in Somerset's loss to Danville last week. LCA's offense is sputtering. The Eagles have scored just 16 points in their past three games.

Tates Creek (5-3) at Clark County (1-6), 7:30 p.m.: The Commodores are averaging a robust 30 points per game this season but have allowed more than 30 in each of their past three games. Clark County has not won since its season opener.

Top state games

Franklin County (8-0) at No. 17 Anderson County (6-1), 7:30 p.m.: Anderson County will try to bust up Franklin County's unbeaten season and avenge losses to the Flyers each of the past two seasons, including a 56-52 nailbiter last year.

Elsewhere: Four games Friday night pit teams ranked in the Top 25 of Dave Cantrall's Rating the State against each other:

■ No. 18 Warren Central (4-3) at No. 2 Bowling Green (6-0), 8 p.m. (EDT)

■ No. 4 Trinity (4-3) at No. 5 Male (7-0), 7:30 p.m.

■ No. 6 St. Xavier (4-4) at No. 11 Manual (6-1), 7:30 p.m.

■ No. 19 Dixie Heights (5-2) at No. 7 Simon Kenton (8-0), 7 p.m.
