Authorities are seeking a Laurel County man who allegedly assaulted a woman earlier this week after she spotted him trying to break into her mother's home.

The Laurel County Sheriff's Department identified the suspect as Harold Gaines, 29, who has several outstanding warrants in addition to the assault case.

The incident occurred Monday, when a woman identified as Gwen Watts noticed a black pickup behind her mother's residence.

According to officials, Watts followed the truck to Feltner Steer Road where it suddenly stopped. The driver got out, then assaulted Watts, who filmed the incident with a video camera.

Gaines was identified by means of the video and tips from the public, the sheriff's department said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Laurel sheriff's department at 606-864-6600 or 606-878-7000.
