A London woman was arrested Saturday after telling police that her boyfriend told her to shoot him, and she did.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff's office, Sharon Johnson, 49, got into an argument with her boyfriend, Lonnie D. Bowling, 47, of Keavy, on White Oak Road 9 miles west of London on Saturday morning.

Johnson told officers that Bowling told her to shoot him, so she shot him once in the leg with a 9 mm pistol.

Sheriff's deputies, who were called to the scene at 9:30 a.m., charged Johnson with first-degree assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public intoxication — controlled substance.

According to a news release, Johnson "appeared to be intoxicated, attempted to disrupt the investigation by deputies and allegedly was interfering with EMS responders inside the residence."

She was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center.

Bowling was taken by helicopter to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition Saturday night.
