EKU seeks flutists for master class with Sir James Galway

Staff, wire reportsOctober 20, 2013

Attention, Lexington-area flutists: Sir James Galway will be conducting a master class at Eastern Kentucky University on Nov. 4, the day before his performance at the EKU Center for the Arts , and you could be critiqued by one of the world’s most famous flute players.

Kristen Kean, associate professor in EKU’s department of music, said performers still are needed for the master class, which will be 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 4. Participants may be college or advanced high school students, or young professionals. They should contact Kean at kristen.kean@eku.edu  , and include their name, age, and the title and movements of pieces to be performed. Each performer should bring his or her own accompanist.

“A total of three students will be performing,” Kean said in a news release, “with the repertoire to be determined by Sir James.”

She said all master class participants should bring their flutes, as “Sir James will lead everyone in a warm-up session before the performers begin,” Kean said.

Galway and his wife, Lady Jeanne Galway, are coming to Richmond for a performance with conductor JoAnn Falletta and the Irish Chamber Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5. Tickets are $55.50 to $75.50, and anyone attending the master class will get a voucher to buy tickets for $25, with no quantity limit. Go to Ekucenter.com   or call (859) 622-7469 for tickets.
