By accepting walk-in patients and extending hours, Lexington Clinic hopes to serve about 1,000 more patients at its office at 450 East New Circle Road.

The clinic between Bryan Avenue and Meadow Lane, which previously saw patients only by appointment, reopened Tuesday.

"We have set it up to be sort of a new model for Lexington Clinic," said clinic spokeswoman Amy Lain. She said the office had been closed for several months while undergoing a renovation.

"After studying the needs of the area we are trying to find a way to make sure we provide quality care that folks needed in a way that fits their schedule best," she said.

About 5,000 people were seen at the office last year, she said. Lexington clinic leaders say they hope that number will rise to 6,000.

The clinic will see walk-in patients for chronic conditions such as diabetes management as well as more acute treatment such as a broken ankle or stitches.

That means having extended evening hours during the week and being open on the weekends.
