The University of Kentucky women's basketball team will open the 2013-14 season next week ranked No. 8, according to the nation's coaches.

The USA Today pre-season poll released Tuesday also revealed Kentucky's cross-state rival Louisville will begin the year rated No. 5.

The Cats will meet last season's NCAA runner-up Cardinals on Dec. 1 in Memorial Coliseum, one of many difficult tests for Kentucky this season.

The Wildcats, who advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight for the third time in four years last season but have never been to a Final Four, also will face No. 2 Duke, No. 4 Tennessee, No. 10 Baylor, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 17 LSU, No. 21 South Carolina and No. 22 Georgia.

Defending national champion Connecticut opens the season ranked No. 1. The rest of the top five are Duke, Stanford, Tennessee and Louisville. Rounding out the top 10 are Maryland, Notre Dame, Kentucky, California and Baylor.

UK plays an exhibition game Sunday in Memorial Coliseum against Eckerd College at 1 p.m. The Cats open the regular season Nov. 8 at Marist.
