Three Lexington Speedway stores were robbed Saturday, and police indicated they might have been committed by the same person.

The Speedway on Paris Pike near Interstate 75 was robbed by a man with a handgun about 7:30 a.m., said Lt. Chad Bacon of the Lexington police.

At 3:30 p.m., a man handed a note to a clerk at the Speedway at New Circle and Liberty roads. He demanded cash, implied he had a weapon and then ran away with cash.

About 8 p.m., a man with a similar note demanding money went into the Speedway at Tates Creek and Old Mount Tabor roads, Bacon said. That man had a gun tucked into his waistband, but the clerk did not give him money, and the man ran out.

A dog was used to try to track the man without luck.

"More than likely, he's in a vehicle," Bacon said.

He said police had been in contact with Speedway's corporate headquarters about the robberies.
