Meet the UK women

November 3, 2013

Senior DeNesha Stallworth (center) is part of a deep, talented UK women's team that has high hopes of dancing its way to Southeastern Conference and NCAA titles this season.

Azia Bishop

Vitals: The 6-foot-3 junior forward/center is from Toledo, Ohio. Her major is social work. She was born April 5, 1993.

The lowdown: One of the fastest players on the team, she had career highs in points (17 vs. LSU) and rebounds (11 vs. Vandy) in SEC play last season and could make UK a much quicker, deeper team if she can become more consistent.

Samantha Drake

Vitals: The 6-foot-3 senior forward/center is from Bardstown (Nelson County). Her major is family sciences. She was born Oct. 30, 1991.

The lowdown: Didn't get to play in the post-season for violating team rules and needs to step into more of a leadership role as a senior. Has size and the ability to score serious points in the post with her back to the basket, but has to assert herself more to become an impact player.

Makayla Epps

Vitals: The 5-foot-10 freshman guard is from Lebanon (Marion County). Her major is undergraduate studies. She was born June 6, 1995.

The lowdown: Powerful, versatile guard could play nearly any position on the floor. High basketball IQ, speed and ball-handling skills will make her difficult for opponents to defend. Reigning Kentucky Miss Basketball led Marion County to an undefeated 39-0 record and a state championship last season.

Kastine Evans

Vitals: The 5-foot-8 senior guard is from Salem, Conn. Her major is business management. She was born June 6, 1992.

The lowdown: Not the fastest, strongest or most athletic player on the team, but has a knack for being in the right place at the right time (see go-ahead three in Sweet 16 win last season.) That's why she's started in 60 career games. Evans' leadership could be a key to the season.

Kyvin Goodin-Rogers

Vitals: The 6-foot-1 freshman forward is from Lebanon (Marion County). Her major is undergraduate studies. She was born May 23, 1995.

The lowdown: Will add depth and dimension to Kentucky's sizable frontcourt. Long, lean player is speedy and competitive, and she helped lead Marion County to an undefeated season and state championship last season. Has nice touch, good range for her size and works hard even without the ball.

Bria Goss

Vitals: The 5-foot-10 junior guard is from Indianapolis. Her major is communications. She was born Sept. 2, 1992.

The lowdown: Unselfish, high-energy player who shined in her role coming off the bench last season after starting as a freshman. Goss became a key defensive stopper last season and returns as the Cats' fourth-leading scorer at 8.8 points a game.

Linnae Harper

Vitals: The 5-foot-8 freshman is from Chicago. Her major is undergraduate studies. She was born Jan. 31, 1995.

The lowdown: Left-handed guard could play almost any position on the floor and has keen ability to knife through the lane and finish with contact. The nation's No. 5 high school player and second-best guard last season, according to ESPN, she is an aggressive ball hawk with strong defensive and rebounding skills.

Jennifer O'Neill

Vitals: The 5-foot-6 junior guard is from Bronx, N.Y. Her major is kinesiology and health promotion (exercise science). She was born April 19, 1990.

The lowdown: Became a key player last season when she took over the point guard role (2.8 assists a game) and made UK nearly impossible to stop in transition. Returns as the Cats' second-leading scorer at 12.5 points a game and is their top returning three-point threat.

Bernisha Pinkett

Vitals: The 5-foot-7 senior guard is from Washington, D.C. Her major is family sciences. She was born Oct. 13, 1991.

The lowdown: One of the Cats' key role players last season, she played in all but one game and averaged 2.8 points and 1.6 rebounds. Her goal is to become one of the team's top weapons and a true senior leader.

Jelléah Sidney

Vitals: The 6-foot-2 junior forward is from Queen's Village, N.Y. Her major is social work. She was born April 23, 1991.

The lowdown: Little-used during the regular season as she transitioned from a year at junior college, Sidney showed her athleticism, speed and defensive tenacity in the Cats' NCAA Tournament run.

DeNesha Stallworth

Vitals: The 6-foot-3 senior forward is from Richmond, Calif. Her major is family sciences. She was born May 5, 1992.

The lowdown: One of the nation's elite post players, she returns as UK's leading scorer (12.5) and its second-leading rebounder (6.0) and shot blocker. If she asserts herself and plays with confidence, Coach Matthew Mitchell believes she can be SEC Player of the Year and an All-American.

Janee Thompson

Vitals: The 5-foot-7 sophomore guard is from Chicago. Her major is journalism. She was born Oct. 6, 1993.

The lowdown: With more consistency, she could go from solid role player to one of UK's most important scoring threats. Doesn't shy away from big moments, hitting a game-winning three-pointer at Louisville last season and playing a key role in a win at Texas A&M.

Samarie Walker

Vitals: The 6-foot-3 senior forward is from West Carrollton, Ohio. Her major is merchandising, apparel and textiles. She was born Sept. 15, 1992.

The lowdown: A valuable defender who led UK in rebounding (8.1 rpg), steals (72) and blocks (56) last season. She would like to become a true offensive weapon after averaging 8.7 points a game last season. With a little more confidence and consistency, she could create a tenacious tandem with Stallworth.
