A rumor on social media that a shooting would occur Monday at Tates Creek High School is "unsubstantiated," according to principal Sam Meaux in an email sent to parents Sunday evening.

"This rumor was brought to our attention Friday morning and found to be unsubstantiated," Meaux said in the email, which went out to parents of students at all three schools on the Tates Creek campus. "The school administration, along with our law enforcement officers, conducted a thorough investigation, including a home visit and consultation with the parents of (the) student named in the rumor.

"Of course, students and parents are concerned when rumors of this nature are reported. We are too. As such, we have tried in earnest to assuage these concerns by acting swiftly and thoroughly. As I said earlier, the rumor is unsubstantiated."

Concerned parents contacted school officials and Lexington police into the weekend. Lt. Sam Murdock said Sunday night that they were referring all calls to the Fayette County Public Schools' law enforcement officers, but that "there will be an increased police presence at Tates Creek High School" on Monday.
