OWINGSVILLE — Two people were killed traveling alone in two separate vehicles in a crash early Saturday morning on I-64 in Bath County near Owingsville, Kentucky State Police said.

Police identified the victims as Michelle Hopkins, 23, of Lexington, and James A. Weaver, 77 of Wallingford.

Police said Hopkins was driving eastbound on I-64 at the 119 mile marker about 2:20 a.m. Saturday when the wheels of her Toyota Solara dropped off the right shoulder of the roadway and overcorrected.

Her car then traveled through the median and flipped into the westbound lanes, police said.

Weaver was driving westbound when his Chevy pickup was struck by the flipping vehicle, police said.

Police said Hopkins was wearing a seat belt and was ejected from her car.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the accident scene by Bath County Coroner Robbie Powell.

Neither driver is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision, police said.
