Police said a Lexington man tortured and killed some cats at a home on Woodland Avenue.

Police said officers went to the home Friday evening, where one of the residents told them his roommate had beaten several cats with a metal broomstick.

Police said the suspect, identified as Li Xu, 20, stated that he recently had adopted the cats and that one of them urinated on his carpet.

The man became upset and beat the animals, which died, police said.

Both cats were found in a box outside the home, officers said.

Li Xu is charged with torture of a cat, a felony, police said.
