Missy's Pies, the home of confections with meringue peaks like a ski slope, has moved to a bigger location across the street from its former bakery space.
The bakery — which produces about 900 pies a week on average, but sells about 4,000 on the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving — moved to the small building at 502 East High Street. The space, across Woodland Avenue from Ramsey's Diners' High Street location, had housed the office of Rob Ramsey, founder of the restaurant chain, which owns Missy's.
Missy's has long baked all the pies served by Ramsey's. When it first opened its Woodland Avenue space, "it was just a way of getting our desserts baked," Ramsey said. "That space didn't have a restroom in it, so we couldn't serve the public."
Ramsey has moved his office to a building on Dove Run Road, equidistant between Ramsey's High Street and Tates Creek Road locations. Ramsey's also has locations in Andover and on Harrodsburg Road.
Missy's moved into its new space at the end of October, Ramsey said.
The pie shop has three tables and a bar top for customer service, and might in the future offer foods besides Ramsey's famous variety of pies including meringue, peanut butter, pumpkin and pecan.
Ramsey said that cinnamon rolls may be among the products offered for breakfast, and pimiento cheese sandwiches for lunch "for people who want to get a bite and not wait in line at Ramsey's."
While the Missy's brand is nearly as well-known in the Lexington area as Ramsey's, there is no Missy on premises. Missy's website explains that Missy was a former cook at Ramsey's who was supposed to helm the bakery when it opened in 1989 — but left a note saying she was going to Connecticut to get married and was never heard from again.
Missy's is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
