Online recording of Pike teacher's classroom criticisms draws district officials' attention

November 20, 2013

A viral video on a popular social networking website has brought one Pike County middle school teacher under fire for comments she allegedly made in her classroom toward her students.

According to Pike County Schools Superintendent David Lester, district officials are addressing and responding to a video on the social networking website Facebook which includes audio of middle school teacher Alice Smith scolding one or more of her students for poor performance on a classroom assignment. In the audio recording, the voice, which Lester confirmed is that of Smith, decries the students’ performance and insults them, saying at least one student is “wasting space.”
