Three men with guns robbed a Lexington gas station early Thursday morning, police said.

Police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said the robbery occurred just after 1:30 a.m. at a Marathon station in the 1900 block of North Broadway.

Roberts said, three men in dark clothing and wearing bandannas over their faces entered the business with handguns visible.

Roberts said one of the men ordered an attendant to open a safe, and he then removed two cash drawers. Cigarettes also were stolen, she said.

The robbers apparently left on foot, Roberts said.

A police K9 unit was called, and the dog trailed a scent to a nearby bar, where the trail ended. That could mean the robbers entered a vehicle at the bar and drove away, Roberts said.
