Jessamine County: Empty Bowls lunch Thursday; tour of Wilmore churches Saturday

Camp Nelson National Cemetery will host Wreaths Across America, a holiday wreath-laying ceremony to honor and remember our nation's veterans at noon Saturday.

The Civil Air Patrol, veterans service organizations and citizens are coordinating the event to honor veterans of each branch of the military, the Merchant Marine as well as prisoners of war and those still missing in action.

Empty Bowls luncheon Thursday

Ceramic artists from the Providence School in Nicholasville have fired and glazed dozens of soup bowls in preparation for the seventh annual Empty Bowls luncheon which will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the Providence School Cafeteria, 210 South Lexington Avenue in Wilmore. A soup lunch will be served for $10, and the customer gets to keep the bowl. Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger that is personalized by artists and art organizations on a community level. Christmas Tour to include 6 churches

The Christmas Tour of Wilmore Churches will include six church sanctuaries from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Participating churches are Cedar Top Baptist Church, Community Missionary Church, Extreme Life Fellowship, Mount Freedom Baptist Church, Perkins Chapel A.M.E. and Wilmore Christian Church. Some churches will offer light refreshments and musical presentations, and all will have hosts available to answer questions and guide visitors. The Community Center at Wesley Village will host a Christmas Ball from 8:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday at 1125 North Lexington Avenue in Wilmore. The event will feature food, door prizes, dancing and music by the MetroGnomes, a 19-piece big band. Swing dance lessons will be taught by the Hepcats Swing Dance Club, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person. Call Alan at (859) 858-3865, Ext. 238.

Child safety fair Saturday

A free child safety fair will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hudson Nissan, 2159 Lexington Road, Nicholasville.

The Keeping Kids Safe Project will provide families with FBI-quality digital fingerprints and photographs of their children.

The Nicholasville Fire Department, Jessamine County EMS, Jessamine County Public Library, Girl Scouts of Kentucky's Wilderness Road, Griswold Self Defense and Horses Healing Humans will also be at the fair, providing safety information and children's activities.
