An 86-year-old Knox County man faces an assault charge after he allegedly shot another man in the face, Kentucky State Police at Harlan said.

Troopers said Fred Meyer of Woodbine was charged and taken to the Knox County Detention Center after the shooting Wednesday afternoon on Prewitt Road.

State police said Chris Dinkins, 50, of Corbin was sitting in a vehicle outside Meyer's home with a 16-year-old male passenger. Meyer came out on the porch, and an argument began, police said.

Meyer allegedly fired one shot at Dinkins, hitting him in the face, troopers said.

Dinkins was treated at Baptist Health Corbin, then was flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. He was reported in fair condition Friday.

The case remains under investigation.
