Lex-Care: Grandma can't pay $500 bill

December 17, 2013

Shannon Gordon, a social worker at the Lexington Senior Center, is seeking assistance for a client who needs $500 for a past-due Kentucky Utilities bill. Gordon's client is raising her two grandchildren. Her client was recently hospitalized for post-traumatic stress disorder. She served in Vietnam as a Doughnut Dolly volunteer for the American Red Cross, but since she wasn't actually a member of the military she cannot receive any veteran's benefits.

The bill became delinquent during her hospitalizations. Once the bill is paid she can keep current with the KU budget plan and her Social Security income.
