An off-duty Powell County deputy was injured in a crash Sunday night when he swerved to avoid a deer, state police said.

According to state police in Morehead, deputy Larry Hall, 35, was off duty and driving north on Black Creek Road when he tried to avoid the deer.

Hall lost control of his police cruiser, ran off the left side the highway and struck an embankment, police said.

Hall was treated at the scene for neck and back injuries, and he was examined at St. Joseph Mount Sterling before being released.
