A Richmond man remained in critical condition Monday at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after being hit by a car during a fight.

Richmond assistant police chief Robert Mott said Joshua Childers was injured about 10:15 p.m. Saturday during an altercation with Jeremy Dean Rice, 21, of Richmond.

Rice was later arrested on charges of first- and fourth-degree assault, police said.

The altercation occurred at a home on Evansdale Avenue in Richmond, Mott said. It began as a domestic argument between Rice and his girlfriend, identified as Childers' sister. Police said Rice allegedly shoved or struck the woman in the chest, and Joshua Childers intervened. A fight broke out between the two men, police said.

Rice then got into his vehicle and drove away, striking Childers, police said.

The case remains under investigation.
