Tates Creek Road, blocked by downed power pole, could reopen by noon

Tates Creek Road in the Spears area, which has been closed by a wreck since early Tuesday morning, could reopen by about noon, Lexington police said.

The one-vehicle crash snapped a utility pole, dropping wires into the road and forcing police to close inbound and outbound lanes, Lt. Sam Murdock said.

The wires didn't carry electricity, Murdock said.

Authorities initially estimated that the road might be closed six to seven hours, but Murdock said traffic could be moving again by noon, thanks to rapid repairs by utility crews, which were busy putting up a new pole and restringing the wires.

Murdock said the wreck occurred just before 8:30 a.m., when a vehicle ran off Tates Creek Road and hit the pole.

The driver suffered only superficial injuries, Murdock said.
