A car chase ended with a tussle in a creek after a London man tried to flee from a traffic stop.

John P. Cowan, 38, was driving a Chevy truck when Laurel County deputies tried to stop him for a traffic violation about 3 p.m. Tuesday on Cherry Avenue, about 13 miles south of London.

According to police, Cowan failed to stop, put the truck in reverse and eventually ran his truck into a ditch. He then fled on foot. Two deputies arrested Cowan after a brief struggle in a creek. Cowan was charged with numerous offenses including reckless driving, and fleeing and evading the police. He also had outstanding warrants from Laurel and Fayette county courts.
