Rowan mother arrested; 9 children found in "deplorable conditions"

A Rowan County mother was charged with wanton endangerment after her nine children were found in "deplorable conditions," according to Kentucky State Police.

The children range in age from 2 months to 17 years old. The infant was admitted to the hospital for treatment of malnutrition, dehydration and hypothermia. Another child also was treated for malnutrition and dehydration. Four other children were treated and released. All the children were removed from the home on Igo Road. Police were responding to complaints from the Rowan County Department of Social Services.

The mother, Edith Strange, 35, of Morehead, was arrested Monday and was charged with wanton endangerment. The father, Johnathan Prater, 34, of Morehead, also has been charged with wanton endangerment and is being sought. Anyone with information about Prater is asked to call the state police in Morehead at (606) 776-9474.
