A Bath County man remained in critical condition at a Lexington hospital Sunday after firefighters rescued him from a burning building in Bath County, Kentucky State Police said.

Scottie Hicks, 73, of Owingsville was airlifted to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after he was treated for smoke inhalation at St. Joseph East Hospital in Mount Sterling, state police said in a release.

When firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Susan Hicks, 69, told them her husband was still inside the burning residence on Ky. 36.

The cause of the fire was undetermined Sunday, and it remained under investigation by state police and the state fire marshal's office.
