A Marion County couple died when a fire consumed their mobile home early Monday, according to Kentucky State Police.

Police identified the victims as Thomas Wayne Cundiff, 60, and his wife, Mary Rose Cundiff, 71. They lived in the Holy Cross community, which is near the border with Nelson County.

Fire departments from Marion and Nelson counties responded to the blaze, which was reported at 3:36 a.m.

It is possible the couple died as a result of smoke inhalation, but autopsies will be required to confirm their cause of death, said Alan Mattingly, a deputy coroner who handled the case.

The victims were found in the remains of the house after firefighters put out the flames.

Investigators have not confirmed the cause of the fire, but foul play is not suspected, police said.
