A body was found Wednesday afternoon in a Lexington storage unit, Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said.

Ginn said the Lexington police robbery/homicide unit called his office before 5 p.m. after the body was found at the Econo-Self Storage on James Court, near Winchester Road.

The body was taken to Frankfort on Wednesday night for an autopsy, to be conducted Thursday, Ginn said.

Lt. Eric Lowe said police received a tip about the body from a federal agency, but he declined to name the agency. In addition to working to identify the body, investigators are trying to determine how long it was in the storage unit.
