An intoxicated man and woman passed out in a vehicle in traffic on Saturday afternoon with the woman's young child in the back seat, Richmond police say.

Several people pointed out the vehicle to a Richmond police officer about 4:10 p.m. Saturday at Irvine Road and Eastern Bypass. The vehicle was stopped in a turning lane, and witnesses said the man and woman were passed out.

An officer found the driver, Jonathan Harrison, 28, of Irvine, awake, but the woman was unconscious, according to a news release from Richmond police. The officer awakened the woman, who was not identified, and determined she and Harrison were both under the influence.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Baptist Health Richmond and later transferred to Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Police said charges were expected to be filed against her when she is released.

Social services was called about the woman's 1-year-old son, who was in a safety seat in the back seat. He was later released to an adult relative.

Harrison had 15 suboxone strips on him, police say. Suboxone is a drug often given to opioid addicts who are dependent on drugs such as Oxycontin and Vicodin.

He was taken to the Madison County Detention Center and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, driving under the influence, second-degree possession of a controlled substance and not having a driver's license or insurance.
