A Lexington man was indicted earlier this week on a manslaughter charge stemming from the death of his infant daughter.

William Curtis McKenzie, 30, admitted to wrapping a blanket around 2-month-old Ava Grace McKenzie's face. The child suffocated, according to a coroner's report. According to Fayette District Court documents, the infant's mother had previously warned McKenzie about putting the blanket over the child's face.

Emergency workers found Ava unresponsive Nov. 9 at a home on Huntsville Drive. Ava was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where she died.

William Mckenzie also was indicted on a charge of being a persistent felon. McKenzie was being held in Fayette County Detention Center on $30,000 bond.
