Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of a premature infant whose body was found on the Rowan County property of a couple already charged with abuse and neglect.

State police at Morehead said troopers discovered the remains of the child Thursday while executing a search warrant on the property of Johnathan Prater and Edith Strange on Igo Road.

Troopers said the case began after the Rowan County Department of Social Services contacted the Morehead post about "information involving the whereabouts of a deceased infant."

Troopers then went to the Igo Road location, along with the Rowan County coroner.

The remains have been transported to Frankfort for autopsy.

Prater and Strange are being held in the Rowan County Jail on previous abuse and neglect charges, according to state police.

An investigation is continuing.
