Bourbon jail officer charged with drug offenses after contraband investigation

January 17, 2014

Officer Jimmy Billups, Jr., 45, of Paris has been charged with bringing contraband material into the Bourbon County Regional Jail where he worked.

State Police arrested Billups, of 1226 Vine Street in Paris, Wednesday following an investigation that started last November, according to a state police news release issued Friday.

An investigation began after a complaint from jail officials in November 2013 that one of the jail employees was suspected of being involved in the "repeated promotion of contraband" at the jail, the release said.

A warrant to search Billup's residence led to the finding of narcotics; Billups was arrested.

Billups has been charged with conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, the release said.

Billups was taken to the Scott County Detention Center.
