January 19, 2014

A Rockcastle County man was arrested over the weekend after robberies in Brodhead and Mount Vernon.

Lee H. Speaks, 28, of Mount Vernon was charged with first-degree robbery. Kentucky State Police said in a news release that he was a suspect in the robbery of Citizens Bank in Brodhead on Friday and another robbery Saturday in Mount Sterling.

According to the news release, state police received a report about 5:40 p.m. Friday that an armed man had entered the bank and demanded money before fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police were seeking help in identifying the man when the second robbery in Mount Vernon led to Speaks' arrest, the news release said.

Speaks was being held in the Rockcastle County Detention Center.
