Lex-Care: Grandparents raising five children need help to pay electric bill

January 21, 2014

Shannon Gordon, a social worker at the Lexington Senior Citizen's Center, is working with a set of grandparents who are raising their five grandchildren due to the parents' incarceration. They are in need of $500 to pay a past-due electric bill. The grandfather recently lost his job and has been unable to find a new one. The family's only source of income is Social Security and they need assistance to pay the bill in order to prevent disconnection of electric services. After settling the bill, the clients will go on a budget plan and will be able to pay future bills on their current Social Security income.
